Hydraulic oil is used by hydraulic equipment in order to transfer power within the machinery, and may be either mineral based or synthetic based. There is a lot that can be said about this oil, but here are some of the main points that it are good to be aware of.

THE ADDITIVES

In addition to the principal components of the oil, there can also be other substances added, depending on what you are trying to accomplish. Some of the purposes of the additives can be:

  • Improving flow in an extremely cold climate
  • Helping reduce wear on machinery
  • Rust prevention
  • Reducing foaming which can decrease the oil’s ability to lubricate machinery
  • Reducing sludge

PRECAUTIONS FOR CARE

There are things you can do to help maintain the life of these fluids, including keeping them cool, dry and clean. It is also important to repair any leaks right away.

ANALYSIS OR MONITORING OF OIL

Before going to the expense of changing out your oil, you can have an analysis done to determine whether or not you can continue using it. Continued usage when it needs to be change can result in damage to costly machinery as well as potentially cause injury to workers.
